In-Person Interviews

Some of the survey questions used in the interviews

  • Have you had any problems with an air inflator in the past?

  • Do you think this product should be corded (plug-in) or cordless (battery-powered)

  • Do you prefer an analog display or a digital display?

  • Any other features you would like to see on this product (features like a built-in flashlight, etc.)

“...my corded air inflator is fast and having air chuck helps a lot, but is very immobile and loud!..."

“...I do not have an air inflator. but using my roommate’s inflator saves me time and money...”

“The reason they don’t last is that the companies don’t apply oil into the motor that drys up the air pump. Not having oil in the air compressor motor will tend to make the product run dry, eventually either burning up or blowing up...”
-Shwan, 24, Mechanic at SD Auto Repair

“A way to make a product like this better is to have great customer support, universal parts be, and cheap as well as easier easily assessable, prefer to have both external battery as well as a wall adapter to plug-in, and most importantly, be user-friendly.”

Ideation Sketches

  • I wanted to design a rigid design more rigid Air Inflator for a longer lifespan.

  • I wanted to create different variations of the two designs I chose, I wanted to try out a different style of design sketching.

  • I used Post-it notes to show the various features the air inflator can have.
